Australia has appointed Air Vice-Marshal Darren Goldie as its inaugural national cybersecurity coordinator, as part of a nationwide effort to address the growing cybersecurity concerns within the government.
Having served the country with distinction for over 30 years in various roles with the Royal Australian Air Force, Air Marshal Darren Goldie brings a wealth of experience to his new position after serving as Air Commander Australia.
With prior experience in key government leadership positions, Air Marshal Goldie will now spearhead national cybersecurity policy, coordinate responses to major cyber incidents, lead government-wide preparedness efforts, and enhance the Commonwealth’s cybersecurity capabilities.
“Air marshall goldie will drive the work across government in cybersecurity with force and velocity that is needed to meet in what is very substantial and seriously growing challenge for our nation.” Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil says in a press briefing.
The new coordinator’s role will be very important for the government as it is a vital component of what modern government needs to do to respond to emerging challenge in the digital age.
Air Marshal Goldie is slated to assume his new role on July 3rd of this year.
